Scanning and accuracy
- How does Receipt Scannr scan a receipt?
- Take one photo. The image is prepared and de-skewed, OCR converts it into text with positional information, and a model identifies which values are the merchant, date, total and line items. The expense is then categorized automatically. The whole process takes a couple of seconds.
- What data does it extract from a receipt?
- Merchant, total, date and line items, which are then assigned a spending category.
- Can it read crumpled or faded receipts?
- Usually. Contrast correction recovers a lot of faint thermal print, and de-skewing handles receipts photographed at an angle. Physically damaged receipts — for example a crease running through the total line — may need a manual correction.
- How do I get the most accurate scan?
- Photograph the receipt on a flat, contrasting surface in even light, include all four edges in the frame, capture one receipt per photo, and scan while the receipt is fresh rather than after it has faded.
- Can I correct a scan that came out wrong?
- Yes. Extracted fields and the assigned category can be edited, and you can apply custom tags of your own.
